Plan of Attack

Basis of Calculation

200 lb/hr of cold water

Solution Outline

  1. Use HYSYS to model the heat exchange process.
  2. Specify the streams base on the information given.
  3. Make assumptions to get the desired results.

Assumptions

  1. The components behave according to the PRSV equation of state.
  2. There is no heat loss to the environment.
  3. The  hot stream flow through the shell, while the cold stream flow through the tube.
  4. The pressure drop in in the shell the two exchangers are the same; 150 psi (estimated from the inlet and outlet pressures).
  5. The pressure drop in in the tube the two exchangers are the same; 25 psi (estimated from the inlet and outlet pressures).
