Simulation Diagram

A HYSYS  representation of the reactor is presented in Figure 2.

Figure 2: HYSYS representation of the pump.

Model Description

A water stream  named 'in' is fed into pump named P-100. The energy source for the pump is called 'work'. The outlet water stream for the pump is called 'out'.

Selecting Components and Property Package

  1. Open a new HYSYS case and select PRVS for the basis
  2. Select the component H2O.

Setting up the PFD

  1. Go to the PFD and press the F12 key.
  2. In the window that pops up, select the All Unit Ops radio button.
  3. From the Available Units ops list, scroll down and select Pump. (Alternately, the pump can be selected from the object palette.)
  4. Press the Add button after the selection has been made. This will install a pump on the PFD and open the pump window.
  5. Name the steams shown in Figure 2.

Specifying  the Streams

  1. Click on the Worksheet tab of the pump window.
  2. Enter the conditions for stream in as given in the problem statement. These are 250 °F, 30 psig and 100 lb/hr.
  3. Enter the Pressure for stream out which is 1200 psig.

Specifying the Pump Efficiency

  1. Click on the Design tab of the pump window.
  2. Then click on Parameters.
  3. In the Adiabatic Efficiency box on the parameters page, enter 10. The units should be in per cent.
  4. After the efficiency is entered the streams of the pumps should be solved. Click on the Worksheet tab to view the results.
