Process Description

The enthalpy, H, of  a body is the sum  the internal energy, U, of the body and the pressure, P, multiplied by the volume, V, of the body.

In chemical engineering, the enthalpy of the body is extremely useful when doing energy balances.

Saturated steam is  the vapor of H2O in equilibrium with liquid H2O at or above the normal boiling point at a particular pressure.

Superheated steam is steam  that is heated to a temperature higher than the boiling point at a particular pressure. Superheated steam resembles a perfect gas and does not contain any water; it can not exist in contact with water.

Basis of Calculation

100 kg/hr of H2O

Solution Outline

  1. In HYSYS, use the ASME steam as the property package.
  2. Use  the HYSYS stream operation  to find the enthalpy of H2O at the given conditions.
